The combination of standard Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, striking agility, superior visibility and advanced systems such as the latest EyeSight^®◊ Driver Assist Technology make the Impreza an absolute class leader in active safety. This approach to engineering not only ensures superior levels of protection, it also gives the Impreza uncommon driving dynamics and generates more fun behind the wheel.

EyeSight^® Driver Assist Technology

Standard on all trim levels, the latest version of EyeSight^® utilizes two cameras and a new wide angle mono camera to monitor activity on the road ahead, help identify potential dangers and provide assistance to the driver when needed most. The system incorporates several advanced active safety features: Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Brake Assist, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert and Lane Keep Assist. On the Impreza RS and Sport-tech, the system also includes Automatic Emergency Steering. When fitted with this award-winning driver assist system, past versions of the Impreza have earned the highest possible front crash prevention rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)*.

High Beam Assist

Standard on all trim levels, the High Beam Assist feature automatically switches the LED headlights from high beams to low when approaching other vehicles from either direction. Once the road ahead is clear of traffic, the system then automatically switches back to the high beams for superior visibility.

Reverse Automatic Braking

Available exclusively on the Impreza RS and Sport-tech trim levels, this advanced system utilizes proximity sensors to warn the driver as the vehicle approaches an obstacle. The system will also automatically apply the brakes if it appears that a collision is imminent.

DriverFocus™ Driver Monitoring System (DMS)

Available on the Sport-tech trim level, this award-winning system utilizes a camera angled at the driver’s face and facial recognition software to monitor driver fatigue or lack of attention. When the driver begins to show signs of losing focus, the system sends out a helpful alert.

Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD)

Available on the Touring trim level and above, SRVD utilizes sensors to detect other vehicles and obstacles nearby. Marked by LED indicators mounted on the side mirror surround, the system has three distinct functions engineered for higher levels of safety. Blind Spot Detection identifies vehicles approaching from behind the C-pillars and in other blind spots. Lane Change Assist detects fast-approaching vehicles approaching from behind and in adjacent lanes. Lastly, when backing up, Rear Cross Traffic Alert signals if vehicles or pedestrians are approaching from either side of the vehicle.

Rearview Camera

The standard rearview camera captures a crystal-clear image of what’s behind the vehicle and projects that image onto the centre console screen. For an even more natural and distortion-free image, the lens is protected by a hydrophilic coating and the camera is located close to the centre of the vehicle to provide the best possible viewing angle. Dynamic guide lines also appear on the screen to help the driver when backing up.

Steering Responsive Headlights

Standard on all trim levels, these LED headlights automatically track the angle of the vehicle as it drives around a corner. The headlights themselves also cast a brighter and whiter beam, generating better illumination for improved visibility and increased levels of safety in all driving conditions.

Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)

The standard VDC^† system utilizes a network of sensors to assess whether the vehicle is following its intended course. To help keep the vehicle in control, the system automatically adjusts the AWD torque distribution, engine output and brakes at each wheel. Another standard feature, Active Torque Vectoring, applies braking force to the inside front wheel and distributes more torque to the outside wheel to help the Impreza corner better. These systems give drivers of all abilities the feeling of added security and increased confidence behind the wheel.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

The braking system on the all-new Impreza features high-quality brake pads and calipers, combined with quick response from a short brake pedal stroke. The Electronic Brake-force Distribution system automatically adjusts front/rear brake pressure for consistent performance under different vehicle loads. Brake Override cuts engine power when the brakes and accelerator are applied at the same time, while Brake Assist automatically provides added stopping power in panic-braking situations. Lastly, the Hill Holder System prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards on inclines.

In the event that an accident proves unavoidable, every Subaru is armed with a wide range of passive safety systems engineered to better protect all occupants. The all-new 2024 Impreza is built on the Subaru Global Platform, an innovative design that is ultra-strong in all areas and in which features an enhanced array of safety systems. All of these advances work together to deliver class-leading levels of protection while generating greater peace of mind.

Advanced Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame

Completely redesigned for the previous-generation Impreza, this proprietary advanced frame design protects the passenger compartment by linking the roof to the side pillars and the side pillars to the floor. As a result, impact energy coming from all directions is dissipated and diverted away from the cabin. Since its introduction, the frame and joint structures have been further strengthened, boosting the already impressive safety standards.

Injury-reducing Seats and Seatbelt Systems

The re-engineered front seats on the all-new Impreza incorporate superior frame construction, energy-absorbing mounting and active headrests to reduce the chance of whiplash. The front seatbelts are height-adjustable to better protect passengers of all heights and feature a locking tongue system to further reduce the chance of injury. Both the front and rear outboard seatbelts feature pretensioners to hold passengers firmly in place and load limiters to limit peak forces to the chest area. The ISO-FIX/LATCH system in the rear seat is positioned for easy access, helping better secure younger passengers riding in compatible child safety seats.

Break-away Engine

Every Subaru goes above and beyond common practice when it comes to driver and passenger safety. In the event of a head-on collision, the SUBARU BOXER^® engine and Lineartronics^® transmission are designed to first absorb impact, then break away from the vehicle structure and drop below the passenger cabin. This design helps protect against serious injury to better ensure the safety of everyone inside.

Airbags

The all-new Impreza comes equipped with a full complement of supplemental restraints engineered to better protect the driver and all occupants. These restraints include dual-stage front airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, driver’s side knee airbag, front passenger seat cushion airbag, and side-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard occupants. This unwavering focus on passive safety has been an integral part of the Subaru brand promise for decades and continues to this day.
