  Looks can be deceiving. In the case of the Subaru Tribeca, they are definitely deceiving – beneath the striking exterior of this extraordinary SUV beats the heart of a fierce rally champion. The world-renowned SUBARU BOXER engine delivers plenty of smooth power for city driving or quiet highway cruising, as well as surprising fuel efficiency – all on regular unleaded fuel. The Subaru Tribeca comes equipped with just such a transmission, creating seamless power delivery, uninterrupted traction and unprecedented control.  
 
 
     
  5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

The 5-speed Electronic Direct Control Automatic Transmission with Manual Mode is a true marvel of modern automotive technology. Designed to provide linear acceleration and optimum fuel efficiency, this transmission enables you to take more control of the situation with Manual Mode with manual shifting and its choice of modes from economical to sporty. This transmission also employs blipping control for seamless downshifts, advanced electronics and adaptive shifting logic to help deliver smooth, quick and fuel-efficient performance – even while cornering, or driving up and down hills.

Another control-related innovation: This transmission incorporates Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) which redistributes torque to the front and rear wheels to suit driving conditions. Under normal conditions, the system maintains a spirited 45/55 front/rear torque split, shifting towards a 50/50 front/rear torque split when the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system engages, under hard acceleration or on slick surfaces. The standard VDC works seamlessly with the transmission to promote even greater handling prowess and stability. 		 
     
 
Suspension
     
  Even the very best full-time AWD system needs a superbly engineered suspension system in order to operate at peak efficiency. The reason: If the tires aren't in contact with the road at all times, then the tires are just spinning in mid-air. The 4-wheel fully independent long-travel suspension on the Subaru Tribeca ensures constant contact with the road and, therefore, superior handling and control. The rally-inspired front strut design has been honed to perfection, giving the Tribeca sharp handling, crisp response and a refined ride even when the road is marked by bumps, potholes and other imperfections. The double-wishbone rear suspension works in concert with the front suspension to create a fluid yet responsive ride along with enhanced stability and control. This design further ensures that the tires remain perpendicular to the road when cornering to maximize traction. The Tribeca also boasts excellent ground clearance to help you clear obstacles in your path.
