- Subaru's midsize sedan wins Five Star Award for earning a maximum five-star overall rating in the 2012 JNCAP crash safety evaluation tests for the second consecutive year.
- International accolade recognizing top-ranked safety rating is the latest in Subaru's award-winning history.
MISSISSAUGA) - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce that the Subaru Legacy achieved the Five Star Award for earning the maximum five-star overall rating in the 2012 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) crash safety evaluation tests conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victim's Aid (NASVA). The Legacy received the award for the second consecutive year, while the accolade is also the second five-star JNCAP rating for Subaru in 2012. The Subaru Impreza won the same prize this past November.
With the aim of encouraging consumers to choose safe vehicles by raising awareness of automotive safety as well as emboldening manufacturers to develop safer products, JNCAP conducts testing on models selected from among commercially available vehicles in the Japanese market. Overall safety ratings are based on JNCAP crash performance tests including full-wrap / offset frontal collision, side collision and pedestrian head/leg protection tests.
The JNCAP award is the latest in the Subaru Legacy's international accolade history. During the past year, the Legacy has been recognized in North America by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as a TOP SAFETY PICK. Subaru is the only automaker to earn a 2013 TOP SAFETY PICK award for every model it builds and has achieved this distinction for four consecutive years. New for 2013, Subaru Legacy models built after August 2012 have also won the brand new TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade.
"Customers looking for a mid-size sedan are looking for the optimal blend of style, function and safety," said Shiro Ohta, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "The Subaru Legacy delivers these attributes and much more."
As an embodiment of its brand statement, Confidence in Motion, Subaru is committed to providing a driving experience that delivers enjoyment and peace of mind. As part of its principle of all-around safety, Subaru will continue to enhance its active, passive and preventative safety technologies in the years to come.
